The Conestoga cheer team has been working hard this season and the team is off to a good start!
After interviewing the captains about how they like the season so far, they all agreed that everyone has improved and bonded really well together.
“I think it’s going great,” said captain Layla B. “I think that while there still needs improvement, we have grown a lot and can’t wait to see where it goes from there.
After tryouts, the team recruited five new girls which makes the team contain a total of 15 girls. The cheerleaders say that it is a change having many people but it makes it a lot more fun.
“With having a lot more girls on our team, we have a lot more opportunities in our stunting and everyone is willing to try new things,” said captain Rachael U.
On the weekend of Sept. 6 and 7, the Conestoga cheer team had a two day stunt camp with Vontae, the head coach of the Trinity Valley Community College cheerleading squad.
“I think the two day stunt camp was really beneficial for us and helped us improve in our stunting even though it was a little painful,” said captain Miley C.
Currently the Conestoga cheer team isn’t learning any choreography for state, but will be getting taught hopefully by the end of football season.
Since this is the last high school cheer season for the seniors Rachael U, Layla B, Miley C, and Mercy W, they all expressed that a main goal they really want to accomplish is to attend a lot of clinics and work on sharpness to help the team with state.
“I am hoping to achieve that we have a good state routine, going to more stunt clinics, and cheer clinics, and to make it on the UNL cheer team,” said captain Mercy W.
“I hope the new girls will learn to love the sport as much as I do and to win at state as a team,” remarked Rachael U.
